Joel Lambeth is an Australian visual artist whose practice explores the relationship between analogue materials and digital image systems. Beginning with collage in the mid-1990s, his work has expanded to include photography, generative processes and AI-assisted image creation.Lambeth's long-running project Accidental Archaeology examines entropy and urban surface decay, while later series such as Digital Decay extend these concerns into computational space. His practice is guided by the logic of collage, using fragmentation and reconstruction to reflect how images persist and transform over time.Lambeth exhibits nationally and internationally, and his work appears in publications, collaborations and private collections.
PRACTICE
Collage has been at the centre of Joel Lambeth's practice since the mid-1990s. Working with found imagery, printed matter and photography, he uses cutting, layering and reconstruction to examine how images accumulate meaning over time.
His projects often begin with existing visual material, whether discarded posters on a city wall or digitally generated imagery, and explore what happens when those images are removed from their original context and reassembled. The resulting works sit somewhere between documentation and invention, reflecting an ongoing interest in transformation, chance and the life of images.
